I’ve been dialing in the conversions for a growing SaaS recently, and found a handful of non-obvious updates that have made a big impact.
Wanted to share as I haven’t come across these all over the internet…
Let’s get into it.
- The ‘I’m almost in’ background
All SaaS have a signup and/or verification type form as part of the signup process.
Instead of having some multi-colored generic gradient background like everyone else, try a background image of your SaaS dashboard heavily blurred out.
Psychologically, uses will feel like they’re ‘almost there’ and it’ll push them to complete that step.

- The one-click demo booking
This one’s especially for those SaaS businesses where sales intervention is a key driver of subscriptions.
When the user completes the form and hits the CTA to start their trial- bang- popup your Calendly or similar calendar booking modal. Make sure your spend the time pre-populate fields from the signup to get that one-tap booking experience happening.
Also, whether they book or close the modal, always send them to the trial start. This way they get to experience the trial (warmer prospect) and are primed for the demo.
I’ve seen a 60% uplift on additional bookings using this method. And if bookings increase conversions, you’re talking money.
- The ‘gentle push’ method
When being presented with a sign-up form, many users hesitate to even get started. Get over this by loading your form on the page with the first field active and the cursor blinking.
Plus, if you have any fields that need a one time code, get the user through this quickly by automatically progressing them after they’ve typed the last digit- why have them hit that ‘next button’, too?
- The ‘social proof nudger’
Sometimes users need that final nudge to get them over the line. On the signup page they see the email or social sign-up button and freeze. Doubt creeps in. “Is it really for me?”
Near that sign-up button, Use your customers avatar and their most powerful quote explaining the way it’s changed their life for the better.
They way, they can imagine how much better of they’ll be, and you’ll have another signed up user.
- The ‘outcome onboarding’ flow
Many SaaS don’t have a structured onboarding process. They throw guides explaining how to use every feature, detailed checklists and get users to configure everything up-front.
There is no singular focus, so users get lost and confused.
By driving users to the outcome they’re trying to achieve, you’ll get more subscribers and sticky users. It’s the single biggest lever conversion uplift.
What is the outcome? It could be sharing a photo (Instagram), exporting your design (Canva) or creating & sharing an event (Calendly).
